(LIGHTS RISE on the laundry room - Dee sitting on one side of a drop-down ironing table, listening to Sarah Vaughn, drinking wine - across from Dee sits Elan, an etherial creature in a white gauze outfit, almost seeming to shimmer in and out of existence - Dee talks to the audience)
DEE
My husband’s coming home soon from work.. he puts a roof over us and food on the table.. but what exactly does he do?.. I don’t know, something to do with science - we can’t talk about it.. I know that frustrates him, but I can talk about other things.. our son, my family - not his family - he was an only child, his father died when he was in college, and he doesn’t talk about his mother.. we can’t talk about my work, because I don’t work.. only a little, after secretarial school.. we met at an employment agency - Vaughn was filling out an application across from me, and he looked over and said, “Do you know how to fill out this part?” And I said, “Why, yes, like this..” and slid my paper over to him.. to my surprise, he called that night - I guess he got the number from my application - he’s such a smart man.. our marriage started so well - he thought I was mysterious.. then slowly he realized the mystery behind my eyes was a mystery to everyone - except to me...
(A pause)

Vaughn is the devil - Vaughn is Satan - he tried to destroy your son with that fire..

But he didn’t know Teddy was down in the field..

Teddy is the son of Lucifer - he’s full of electricity - he’ll destroy the world, someday..
