Meet at Bedford Gallery to enjoy a volunteer docent led private tour of the current exhibition on display: The Harmon & Harriet Kelley Collection of African American Art: Works on Paper
Curated from the extensive collection of Harmon and Harriet Kelley, this exhibition highlights seventy works on paper by 54 African American artists spanning the 20th and early 21st centuries. From the first documented professional graphic artist on the west coast, Grafton Tyler Brown, to contemporary printmakers like Margo Humphrey, the exhibition celebrates African American artists and their tremendous contribution to American art and culture. Drawings, etchings, watercolors, pastels, and color screen prints chronicle the lives of Black Americans through scenes of family and community, urban and rural workers, poverty and success, cultural pride and political turmoil. After the approximate hour-long tour, walk over to Lettuce Restaurant to enjoy a delicious brunch and lively discussion about the artwork with fellow participants. Cost of registration includes the Bedford tour, soup and your choice of ½ salad, ½ sandwich or ½ pasta, nonalcoholic beverage, dessert and gratuity. If you need transportation to the Bedford, please contact our Transportation Coordinator at cpcc@walnut-creek.org. No Refunds for cancellations or no shows.
