Artist Connect: Celebrating 60 Years of Art in Our Community

Center for Community Arts is excited to celebrate its 60th anniversary of providing arts classes, workshops, and more to the City of Walnut Creek community. Join us for a special Artist Connect event, where we will combine our milestone celebration with inspiring artist talks.

This free event will feature celebratory sweet treats, light refreshments, and engaging artist talks. Space is limited, so please RSVP today! We hope you’re able to join us!

Event Schedule

6:00 PM - 6:15 PM: Check-In and 60th Anniversary Celebration

  • Kick off the evening by celebrating 60 years of enriching the community through arts education. Enjoy sweet treats and light refreshments as we commemorate this special milestone.

6:15 PM - 7:00 PM: Artist Talk by Mel Mitchell-Jackson

  • Mel is an artist specializing in visual and digital arts. Mel will share an in-depth presentation about their life and work, including how they use photography as a reference tool for painting. They will demonstrate their documentation strategies, such as managing their online shop and ordering prints. Mel will also provide a step-by-step guide on how to document work using both iPhone and digital camera, and discuss how to incorporate storytelling into marketing as an artist.

7:00 PM - 7:15 PM: Break for Refreshments and Networking

  • Take a break and continue to enjoy some celebratory treats and refreshments while networking with fellow artists, educators, and community members.

7:15 PM - 8:00 PM: Artist Talk by Chris Fortin

  • Chris is an artist and teacher who has been working in the ceramic field for close to 20 years. He has been teaching at Community Arts since 2017. Chris will be sharing an in-depth presentation about his life and work as a ceramic artist and sculptor, including his early life, childhood struggles, education and influences.
