Join us for the next iteration of our popular Cocktails & Conversation series on Thursday, August 29 from 5:30 – 7 pm! Get an insider look at our current exhibition Cut Paste Create: The Art of Collage through the lenses of featured artists Victoria Mara Heilweil and Jeanna Penn during an intimate journey through their artistic processes. Sip on a signature cocktail and enjoy light bites throughout the evening.

 

About the Artists:

Victoria Mara Heilweil is a feminist, lens-based artist based in San Francisco. Heilweil’s artwork has been exhibited nationally, including the de Young Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art San Jose, Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum, University Art Gallery at California State Chico, Center for Photographic Art and the Minneapolis Photo Center. Her photographs are included in collections at Cornell University, Center for Photography at Woodstock, CMPC/Sutter Health Van Ness Hospital in San Francisco, San Francisco Arts Commission, Citizen M Hotel in Menlo Park and a COVID-19 Time Capsule at the San Francisco Library. She has received grants from the Puffin Foundation and Palo Alto Public Art, and an MFA from California College of the Arts. Heilweil is represented by Jonathan Carver Moore in San Francisco.

Jeanna Penn is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Oakland. She has been creating art for over twenty-five years in various forms including mixed media collage, murals, photography, zines, soft sculpture, and documentary film. Much of Penn’s work is centered around recontextualizing found imagery and documenting personal and material histories. Penn’s work has been shown at The Barret Art Center (NY); Eyelevel Centre (Nova Scotia); Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery (CA); the Delaplaine Art Center (MD); Yale Divinity School (CT); 516 Arts (NM); The Henry Sheldon Museum (VT); and The DeYoung Museum (CA). Her work is in the permanent collections of the Henry Sheldon Museum and SFMOMA as well as several private collections.

 

Tickets: $15 for BG donors and volunteers/$25 for general admission. Includes two drinks, snacks, and admission to the Cut Paste Create: The Art of Collage exhibition.
