Proposed Amendments to 2016 CA Building Standards

City of Walnut Creek

Proposed Amendments to 2016 California Building Standards

The California Building Standards Commission (BSC) published 2016 California Building Standards Code in July, which will become effective on January 1, 2017. The State of California allows local municipalities to modify the state adopted building standards to make them more restrictive (not less), provided certain express findings are made that the proposed modifications are necessary due to special local climatic, geological, or topographical conditions that can affect the health, welfare, and safety of local residents.

The City of Walnut Creek is adopting the new codes along with local amendments. Before the adopted codes and proposed amendments are presented to the City Council on November 1, 2016, the City would like to share the proposed amendments with the development community, design professionals, and the Building industry.

Should you have any questions or require special assistance/accommodations to attend this meeting, please contact Frank Kong, the Chief Building Official, at 925-943-5828.
